Applying
Hooks With Your Feet

Thanks to my student Keith Bauer for volunteering for this week's moves!

Use your hooks low on your opponents thighs, near the knees to control
him and to keep him from moving away. You can very easily extend your
leg and follow his leg this way.

Here is a close-up of the low hook for good control. I would not try to
sweep my opponent with my foot at this position because, if he sprawls
even a little, his base on the knee will be too far to bring him back
without expending more effort than necessary.

When you are ready to sweep your opponent, slide your hook up to his upper
thigh. This way you control his body more effectively and any leg movement
on his part will be irrelevant. At this point you should be controlling
his opposite hand (in this case his left hand) because he will probably
be attempting to stop your sweep by placing his hand on the ground.

A close-up of the hook, pulling him towards your body to get him off his
base and, consequently off balance.

Once your opponent is off balance and you are controlling his hand as
suggested above, do not kick him over, just roll onto your knees, always
keeping the hook on until you place your knee on the ground for the mount.
Keep on training!
